Emerging from Norfolk, Mazz is the latest sonic innovator to take on modern rap and nostalgic RnB, merging the two in a seamless musical marriage. The result is an artistic outlook that’s frankly quite unique and authentic, signalling the incredible potential carried by the project. ‘Keys to My Heart’ is Mazz’s debut single, a poignant slice of goodness, balanced over bouncy, tropical rhythms and emotional, synthetic goo. An impressive effort.
There’s a strong vintage component in it, with the song reminding us of early ‘2000 RnB and early autotune-style vocals. Think Akon, among others. Of course, ‘Keys to My Heart’ moves into modern territories with its hip-hop component, inspired by the likes of Yung Bleu, D-Block Europe and Central Cee.
Describing the inspiration behind his debut effort, Mazz explains: “I was meant to release a while ago but I felt that my music was not ready so I went away and identified my sound. I have popular side to my music where I express love, affection and reassurance, which can be heard in my debut single, ‘Keys To My Heart’.”
