Following up on last year’s ‘Coffe (Voice Memo)’, British songstress Gretchin now returns with her first full-band offering in a while. Active before the pandemic, the London resident spent the last couple of years writing and recording, developing a stunning collection of material around her fragile and sensible artistry. It is music that highly relates to the modern, complex world we are all living in, taken from Gretchin’s young, rebellious perspective.
‘Send Me Your Lover’ is exactly what you would expect. A triumph. A majestic slice of dreaminess, pop catchiness and grunge fuzziness. Built on a stark contrast between polite, mellow verses and a more intense, rougher chorus, the record tries to embody the poignant, painful act of loss and heartbreak, something that’s particularly obvious in the intense, guitar-filled chorus, also channelling a certain late 90s energy. We absolutely love it.
Written by Gretchin and her brother Joe, ‘Send Me Your Lover’ was produced by Theo Verney and co-produced by Joe Hamberger. Clearly a talented lot, seen the stunning results showcased by the record. Delving into the lyricism behind the song, the British talent explains: “I wrote this song about losing a love that never really happened and the pain and obsession that can come with that.”
