Tycho Jones seems projected into the outer galaxy. Really, his music feels so refreshing and authentic, it makes us wonder where he’s coming from. Having appeared in our publication previously, with singles ‘Risk to my Reward’ and ‘Pink + Blue’, we are familiar with Jones’ eclectic and dazzling indie matter. Now, the British talent returns with a third single, ‘Missing in Action’, completing a triptych of new music packaged into the EP ‘Negative Space’.
A deeper focus on ‘Missing in Action’ reveals another dimension to the Jones we all knew. There’s a certain early ‘2000 indie energy, especially in the emotional lyricism and razor-sharp drum grooves. More nuanced and slick than previous efforts, the record oscillates between intimate verses and anthemic choruses, really showcasing Tycho’s ability to create relatable and catchy hooks.
Describing the lyrical inspiration behind the track, Jones explains: “Missing in Action is about inner conflict, losing someone very dear and knowing they’re gone. Hoping they might come back or respond one day…”.
