STOOP PIGEON, a talented jazz trio comprising Dan Saulpaugh on guitar, Alejandro Luna on drums, and Jonathan Toscano on bass, has recently released their latest EP titled ‘Quiet City.’ This collection of music beautifully blends contemporary post-bop with the heartfelt melodies of American folk music, resulting in a soulful and captivating listening experience.
To play Jazz so well – and to improvise together with a successful outcome – the group members need to understand each other. When delving into Stoop Pigeon, one can easily see their collective chemistry, perhaps achieved while studying together at City College in New York. Their shared passion for music is evident in the cohesive sound they create.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Bill Frisell, Julian Lage, Amahd Jamal, and Bob Dylan, the talented trio engages in a sort of “popularization” of jazz idioms: applying its freedom to more conventional formulas, the band manage to often confuse the listener, hit by the melting pot of references that so greatly characterizes the EP.
