It wasn’t long ago when we were writing about LearningToDive’s recent single ‘Trust in Me’. The New Zealand creative was described by us as “really charging his records with both lyrical and sonic panache, taking the listener on a charismatic journey through human consciousness.” We stand by our words: the project’s latest single confirms it. ‘Rise’ is an engaging, uplifting and slightly psychedelic offering, perhaps pursuing a more chilled-out, leftfield path than its predecessor.
Also known as Bravo Bonez, the Wellington-based multi-instrumentalist knows exactly what his strengths are. From his production abilities, kaleidoscopic, nuanced yet very modern, to his reflective and meaningful songwriting, always navigating the complexity of the human psyche. LearningToDive functions as a coherent blend between music and lyrics, really highlighting the artistic maturity enjoyed by the project.
Describing the inspiration behind the song, Bonez explains: “Rise’ starts uneasily, and finishes uneasily, and that is where I wanted to leave the listener…which isolates the choruses for their euphoria…part of the schizophrenic nature of a long period of persecution.”
