Sugar Nova Get Remixed by Cloudchord on ‘Gospel Hour (2AM)’

The keen reader will gladly remember Sugar Nova, Denver-based duo with a knack for bright, uplifting and quirky electro-pop. After having released their debut album earlier in Spring – ‘Halogen’ – the group now returns with a brand new remix version of a previous single, ‘Gospel Hour (2AM)’. Penned by Austin producer Cloudchord, the remix doesn’t shuffle the track, still navigating the same haunting, soulful electro imprint.

The result is a piece that feels slightly more upbeat, warmer and with an anthemic chorus. Channelling mangled vocal riffs and cinematic soundscapes, Cloudchord manages to extend the lifetime of a clearly powerful track, giving it a strong downtempo identity. It also showcases Sugar Nova in a different light. It works; we can appreciate Miller and Eisenstat’s nuanced work even more.

Describing the reasoning behind the Cloudchord collaboration, Miller explains: “I thought Cloudchord would be perfect to remix this song because the tempo lines up with his downtempo/boom bap vibe. And the world percussion elements lent themselves to his chill-step style.”
