Their ethos is simple: exploring the many ways a six-string instrument can be used as a sound source. Aka, the unexpected uses of a guitar. Emerging from Austin, Texas, FiRES WERE SHOT have long followed this very same formula, always finding new ways to innovate the sonic panorama.
‘Sleeping Land’ is an absolute treat. Not for everyone, granted: a saturated, fuzzy soundscape that’s constantly evolving and modulated, quite noisy but always harmonic. So majestic and charming, it’s almost impossible to resist it. Gathered from 4-track cassette tapes and field recordings, the track is part of their latest EP ‘Siberia’.
Describing the inspiration behind the record, FiRES WERE SHOT explain: “We used various found objects, including rusty farm implements, screwdrivers and knife sharpeners to create the sustained tones found on ‘Siberia”.
