Bingo Boys Share Raw, Fuzzy Masterpiece ‘Freak Out and Leave’

Described as ‘your new favourite punk band’ by us earlier this year, Bingo Boys had already showcased their punch and fierceness in ‘Donuts’, a single we praised a fair bit, both for its chaotic and friendly outlook. It’s punk as it was always meant to be, the kind of music you’d hear on a gig at 12 am – all-out energy. Now, the Indianapolis talents unveil their opera magna, an intriguing album that offers Bingo Boys’ musical sauce 24/7.

‘Freak Out and Leave’ channels the raw feel of the 90s, leaving modern trivial stylings behind in favour of a more authentic take on the genre. Over 13 tracks, the American band takes the listener on a distorted, fast-paced journey into punk music. Drums are almost lost in the mix, yet somehow manage to keep up the groove, blending well with the sea of saturated guitars and malleable vocals. Let’s say it’s controlled chaos – things eventually work, and a song form reaches the listener in all its undeniable glory.

That’s Bingo Boys’ genius: managing to be edgy and experimental while preserving a basic structure that helps the listeners relate to what they are hearing. A fantastic record.
