Upon approaching ‘Emerald Green’, one must be ready to deal with life-changing electronica, a sonic stream of consciousness that aids introspection, reflection and general euphoria. The listening experience is cathartic, almost celebrative. Among luscious soundscapes, angelic vocal harmonies and arpeggiated synthetisers, Sophro builds an absolute masterpiece, both in production and songwriting terms.
Emerging from Manchester, Sophro features singer and writer Delmante, lending her nuanced and ethereal vocals to an already compelling composition. Describing the lyricism in the track, she explains: “This piece took some time to come together, like it grew rather than was written, the piece is about trying to find some space in the world, but also in harmony with it, even when that can be chaotic in nature.”
The result is absolutely staggering. Channelling a plethora of modern influences, the likes of Bjork, Four Tet and John Hopkins, the record moves slick and fast into forward-thinking electronica territories, before exploding in the outro section first with a glorious and majestic wall of sound, then with an in-depth look to Sophro’s delicate harmonies.
