Malachy Tuohy Unveils Stunning Folk Record ‘I Cross This Universe’

Majestic. Upon listening to ‘I Cross This Universe’, we lost ourselves in its eclectic, soothing and gentle folk character, crowned so gloriously by Malachy Tuohy’s evocative and cathartic vocals. The Irish singer and songwriter manages to deliver a record that feels heavy yet light, a collection of bucolic pieces with a strong nostalgic contour. We lost ourselves, once again: the feathery guitar playing, the never-ending soundscapes, the cinematic energy that so greatly informed the record. It all played a part in providing us with a short yet meaningful slice of escapism.

Also known as the lead singer of Dublin band The Riptide Movement. Tuohy found unexpected lyrical fertility during the pandemic, embarking on an introspective journey through human nature. ‘I Cross This Universe’ is the result of that very same artistic turmoil, featuring ten tracks exploring love songs, tributes and eulogies – a ‘comprehensive’ record in that regard, for it encompasses the entire spectrum of human emotions.

Naturally, there’s something for everyone in it, and we are confident the project will catch the attention of a large audience. How could it not? Malachy’s vocals hit so deep and profoundly, such a rare gift for a songwriter.
