CLUB MAJO Channels Her Inner Billy Idol in ‘Dancing With Myself’

There’s a certain aura of mystery around CLUB MAJO. Emerging from Fallbrook, US, she describes herself as “living in a tiny house painted green at the edge of a pond in Southern California”. Pretty dreamy, in fact, the same ethereal character is mirrored in her music, a euphoric and irresistible blend of 80s new wave elements and synthwave stylings. Following up from last year’s single, ‘caterpillar’, CLUB MAJO now returns with a pretty convincing offering, a charming rendition of Billy Idol’s ‘Dancing With Myself’.

In it, the Californian talent steps into retro territories, charging her sonic reference towards punchier and grittier territories. Her vocal tone is a perfect match for such a fierce anthem, echoing the unapologetic charisma of Idol, our never-forgotten punk hero. Enya Preston – the human behind the project – showcases her true artistry, setting the cornerstone for a change of direction and a brighter future.

As explained by CLUB MAJO, the single was recorded in a goat barn-turned studio in rural north county San Diego, channelling references such as David Bowie’s eyeshadow in Life on Mars, 808 drum machines, and glitter. A wonderful evolution for a project that started in 2020 as a reaction to pandemic lockdowns, and now seems projected towards a wider audience.
