7KY Returns With Leftfield, Meaningful Jewel ‘PAPILLÓN’

The keen reader will remember producer and dreamer 7KY, who we recently featured on our pages thanks to the ethereal and poignant single ‘Terrible Things’. We really like the record, short but punchy, memorable and dynamic. Because of it, we were expecting big things from the American talent, staying on the lookout for any new release coming our way. Guess what, we had what we wished for. Earlier this month, 7KY returned to the music scenes with ‘PAPILLÓN’, a more upbeat, cerebral gem that still carries the peculiarity of its author.

The skilled 22 years old manages to craft electronic goodness, balanced between an extremely contemporary and pop topline and a more leftfield, jungle-flavoured instrumental, sprinkling EDM magic all over it. It is just really good! What’s more, 7KY showcases himself being a true artist, by not only having full creative control of his tools and artistic expression but also by finding inspiration in the smallest moments of life, connecting external input to personal feelings and states of mind.

For ‘PAPILLÓN’, he was aided by a butterfly that landed on his laptop when making music. Describing the experience, he explains: It slowly twirled around my hand, spreading its wings for me to see all of its intricacy and design. Its wings were getting frail, and his colour looked a little faded. It reminded me that its life is just as long and beautiful as a human, just in a different perspective”.
