Trent-Jean Shares Catchy Banger ‘Blue’

On a mission to release a track per month (or as he refers to them, ‘Bullseyes’), Trent-Jean appears to be incredibly serious about his artistic journey. It shows: ‘Blue’ – April’s release – is a slice of dreamy and blissful indie pop matter, a seemingly guitar-powered anthem that’s in reality way, way wider and eclectic.

Built over an uplifting drum groove, ‘Blue’ develops over the same pop-oriented rock band blueprint made fashionable by international acts such as The 1975, a cascade of luscious guitar tones and playful riffs wrapped around a sea of textures and electronic details. The result is a listening experience that’s rewarding and highly charismatic, quite ethereal in its stylings.

Such a nuanced production perfectly matches Trent-Jean’s evocative vocals, dynamic and intense, yet measured and controlled. The songwriting format works well too; a short yet relevant offering, ‘Blue’ packs as much catchiness as possible while being careful not to overplay its hand. An impressive ‘bullseye’ which would deserve to become a hit.
