Paul Dill Shares Evocative Album ‘Courage is a Curse’

I am listening to ‘Courage is a Curse’ while writing this piece; unexpectedly, I feel the urgency to stop typing for a while, and just enjoy the record’s immense cathartic energy and eclectic, relatable storytelling. It’s not always easy to describe music – often, its primary force lies in abstract sensations – and this is perhaps one of those cases. Lucky for us, Paul Dill’s storytelling is expansive enough to instil a reflective appeal in any receptive listener.

An 11-track album, ‘Courage is a Curse’ sees Dill delving deep into alt-folk territories, emphasizing his charming, malleable acoustic guitar and the quirky fingerstyle prowess he so proudly champions. On such powerful grounds, Paul develops a personal narrative while bathing in nostalgic and emotional melodies. The pairing between Dill’s vibrant and melancholic vocal tone and the emotional guitar stylings is a match made in heaven – as in, ‘angelic’ is how we would describe its outcome.

Soothing, yet meaningful and heart-warming, ‘Courage is a Curse’ is not easily forgotten. Not to mention, the production and musical value in it are particularly impressive. Joining Dill on the record, we find fingerstyle hero Ivo Vollering (producing) and drummer Chris Hill. Grammy-winning conductor Jules Buckley is a co-writer on singles ‘Naked Rabbit’ and ‘Peace’.
