Matt Saxton Shares Uplifting and Quirky Gem ‘The Edge of Things’

We are certainly familiar with Matt Saxton. One of Great Britain’s underground troubadours, the talented songwriter and singer favours a human-powered approach to his artistry, layering honest and relatable storytelling over soft folk and indie stylings. Writing about Matt’s previous single ‘Take It or Leave It’, we proudly declared it “a beautiful nugget of lyrical authenticity on a bed of folky goodness”.

We stand by our words: the same feeling of wholesomeness arises when listening to Saxton’s latest offering, the nostalgic yet hopeful gem ‘The Edge of Things’. In it, the keen listener will appreciate a lighter and more playful side of the project’s nuanced artistry, with the British artist asking himself whether he is, truly, the main character in his life. The production style reflects such a direction, even incorporating a wonderful sax solo in the outro.

Anticipating Saxton’s upcoming second album, ‘The Edge of Things’ is a quirky surprise in the treasure trove that’s Matt’s recording catalogue. Speaking about the inspiration behind it, he explains: “Do you ever feel your life is like an extra in someone else’s film? Is the real action somewhere else? Are you therefore on the edge of things and not front and centre?”
