MatAre Returns with Evocative Rock Anthem ‘Perfect Constant’

Channelling 90s and early ‘2000s rock-pop flair (think U2, among others), ‘Perfect Constant’ is the kind of track that’s electrifying yet poignant, built on an emotionally dense wall of elegant distortions, and constantly balancing itself with cleaner, friendlier tones. If the verses indulge in poppy melancholia, the song’s choruses instead reveal MatAre’s real fierce character, a stream of alt-rock and AOR matter that’s meaningful and memorable.

That said, perhaps we are selling ‘Perfect Constant’ a bit short of its real value. Defined by the American artist as ‘dreamy’, we do have to acknowledge MatAre’s propulsion towards washed-out guitar sounds and long reverb. It’s controlled and evocative, but it is there. His vocals follow the same trends, quite low in the mix, yet present and anthemic. It’s a record that needs to be taken as a whole – that’s where its true value lies.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, MatAre explains: “It’s about what I would do if I had one day left to live. It’s a song about spending that one day with loved ones, not being afraid, being grateful for the life I’ve had and not being concerned with spiritual matters. It’s deeply personal but…short and sweet at the same time.”
