We are rather familiar with Marc Soucy’s researched and leftfield artistic work. Writing about one of the project’s previous singles – ‘PTSD: Paris-Tokyo Suborbital Departures’ – we proudly described it “as escapist and hazy as it could, wrapping the listeners in an otherworldly, dreamy and feverish sonic journey”. We stand by our words: Soucy always manages to delve deeper into the most obscure corners of his imagination.
‘That Thing You Said’ sees Marc returning with another stunning slice of eclectic extravaganza, only this time he seems to lay off from the overly digital tones of his previous work. Instead, the Boston-based wizard embarks on a mellower, slightly more conventional path, producing a ballad-style jewel balanced between a reassuring harmonica and more alternative synth patches.
Incredibly elegant and charming, ‘That Thing You Said’ is also quite nostalgic, perhaps due to the amount of strings in it, placing the track into orchestral territories. Honestly, it’s a catchy tune, pretty dreamy, and the listeners are likely to lose themselves in it. Escapism… at its finest.
