The keen reader might remember the enthusiastic review we gave to Jonsjooel’s recent single ‘Goodbye Ah’, a stunning effort we celebrated as “a slice of spacious leftfield euphoria”. We stand by our words: Jonsjooel is not simply making music, he’s creating art. Operating free from any pre-determined constraints, the Finnish talent has found a personal, authentic sonic formula that’s incredibly evocative and cathartic.
That’s an achievement on its own. Now, the Berlin-based artist has unveiled an even bigger body of work, the EP ‘Voices Of A First Day’, a collection of five singles drenched in expansive sound design and long, introspective textures. Such an intricate sonic bath is the perfect match for Jonsjooel’s nuanced lyricism, a deep dive into the philosophical beliefs that motivate him to share his art.
As he explains: “‘Voices of a First Day EP’ started out as a spinoff or B-sides of my future album, but have found a special meaning as an independent whole. It is a homage to the book Voices Of The First Day by Robert Lawlor which has inspired me hugely both in life and music. The music on this EP depicts my ideas and feelings of the world which our eyes cannot reach”.
‘So Many Ways’ gets lead single duties, and an outstanding music video too. The track will be featured in the documentary ‘Echoes of the Rainforest’, directed by Dael Sassoon and funded by Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (EU).
