Ian Onis Shares Nuanced Piece ‘The Right Choice’

A hazy, obscure and hypnotising offering, ‘The Right Choice’ is not your standard pop offering; rather, it draws from electronic dance music in order to build a sonic panorama that’s evocative, soothing, yet cathartic and meaningful. Built on slow textures, spacious sound design and jungle-flavoured grooves, the record also flourishes on Ian Onis’ deep and gloomy vocals, delivered with a low tone packed with gravitas and charm.

Hailing from London, Onis boasts a long history of music-making behind him, although the choice to incorporate his own vocals was fairly recent, motivated by the willingness to “create fully honest and authentic music” – as he explains. The result is a gentle jewel that mesmerises even the most apathetic of listeners.

Granted, Ian Onis might not be a singing specialist, but nevertheless, his effort is valid and of importance, especially with such a dark, vibrant tone. It kind of reminds us of Phil Selway – unconventional music for unconventional minds.
