In a little over a month, Helsinki-based singer/songwriter Doron Karavani‘s tune ‘Only Love‘ has reached 27,000 plays on Spotify. You see, it was a song we at Mesmerized fell head over heels for, labelled “incredibly evocative and nuanced”, and just knew it would resonate with many. Not to toot our own horn, but it’s reassuring to know our instincts were on track.
Doron now returns with ‘Time To Rise’, his sophomore album. A nine-track offering of intensely personal and haunting songs, it would be a futile endeavour attempting to pigeonhole such a layered and introspective collection of tunes. It’s a work so rich in mood and meaning, that there’s simply no need to put a label on it.
‘Sky high’ is the tender and beautiful soft-rock opener that sets the scene for our sonic journey, before the record’s warm and infectious first single ‘I’ll be there’ makes its appearance.
‘Free time’ is just an emotional and superbly pieced-together piece of music, while the album’s title track wonderfully showcases how impressive an instrumental line-up Doron has assembled.
Other personal favourites are ‘Not tonight’, ‘Catch me if you can’, and, of course, ‘Only Love’! At the end of the day, however, the entire record is well worth immersing yourself in from start to finish.
