Don’t Get Lemon Indulge into Playful Material in ‘Have Some Shame’

We enjoyed listening to ‘Have Some Shame’. As lovers of everything retro, we really appreciate the nuanced take on new-wave and synth-pop the band seems to indulge. Hailing from Austin, Don’t Get Lemon navigate the border between tradition and contemporary, using 80s tropes and sharp, vintage guitar riffs in order to build a playful style – briefly drenched in nostalgia, yet never self-celebratory.

Described as ‘heatwave’ by the band itself, such a peculiar imprint emerges by blending coldwave and retrowave lo-fi tones – pretty industrial and Soviet-like – with the brighter and more cheerful tones of synth-pop. We dig the concept, which also makes sure Don’t Get Lemon can appeal to a wider audience, without falling into alternative trenches or obscure micro-niches.

‘Have Some Shame’ showcases all of that, an intense and engaging album which never tires the listeners, although its melancholic charge might require a break after a while. Nine tracks of blissful, mysterious euphoria, released via à La Carte Records.
