Andy Smythe Returns with Meaningful Song ‘Love Ain’t Free’

Not long ago, we were writing about ‘Poetry in Exile’, Andy Smythe’s latest album. Exploring its charming and organic character, we proudly defined it as a “collection of relatable and friendly pop gems”, something that’s ever more true today, as we and all listeners have time to digest the record and explore it deeply. Well, Smythe doesn’t rest on his laurels, unveiling a brand new offering showcasing his renowned artistic inspiration, ‘Love Ain’t Free’.

The record follows the project’s usual imprint, serving up a healthy amount of acoustic guitars, fiddles and folk-pop stylings while retaining a certain rock’n’roll prowess. One would say it’s eclectic, although it remains in the traditional realm, perhaps a sign of authenticity regarding Smythe’s long-lasting musical roots.

‘Love Ain’t Free’ sees the British songwriter extending a critical look at post-Brexit immigration policies; as he explains: “‘Love Ain’t Free’ is a song about the difficulties post-Brexit that Brits are experiencing who would like to marry an EU citizen and bring them to live with them in the UK. This involves having £30000 in a bank account or a highly paid job if you’d like your EU spouse to come and live with you on Brexit Island!”
