We were instantly captured by ‘You & I’. A vibrant, evocative record, the track is the perfect concoction of fuzzy guitars, alt-rock prowess and evocative, meaningful vocals. It all results in a piece that’s highly rewarding and memorable, wrapping the listeners in flirtatious aural energy, cathartic yet hard-hitting. Hailing from South Wales, Daioni seems firmly on their way to making strides in the British alt-rock scene, and deservedly so.
Following up from ‘If You Let Me’, ‘You & I’ continues the band’s commitment to poignant, romantic lyricism with a certain emo outlook. This is a truly important factor, as it widens the project’s target audience. The instrumental prowess is notable, with the group confidently building punchy and expressive walls of sound. Vocalist Becky Barnett’s tone is the cherry on the cake, malleable, intense and hypnotising.
Alex Williams, Ross Formosa and Andy Rios-Hall complete the talented lineup. A catchy and relatable anthem, ‘You & I’ is poised to further advance Daioni’s artistic status. We wouldn’t be surprised to see them on bigger stages soon – we reckon it’s just a matter of time.
