Tabi Kate is a supremely talented Brighton-based singer/songwriter who has been steadily building a strong and dedicated following ever since her debut single ‘Closer’ back in 2020. Today, we are proud to introduce you to ‘S K I N’, the artist’s brand new tune which sees her going down a different sonic path when compared to previous hits. Filled with soul and warmth, it’s a laidback and mellow little number with a fantastic walking bassline, tranquil and delicate guitar work, and the sensuous, sultry vocals of Tabi. “I wanted to write a song that was more R&B influenced,” she said. She’s done that and then some!
Turning to the likes of The 1975, Paramore, and The Japanese House for inspiration, Kate was looking for a sound that would appeal to a wider audience with ‘S K I N’. The decision to favour more organic instrumentation rather than electronic was a masterstroke, and it serves as the very foundation for the track’s remarkable soulfulness, warmth, and emotional impact.
Originally intended to be a pop song, I’m so glad that Tabi and Co. played around with the track’s timing and structure to arrive. Lyrically exploring the idea of losing control in a once emotionless relationship, ‘S K I N’ is the perfect tune in so many ways. Tabi…we think it’s time for an album!
