Not everyone will be familiar with Shervin Boloorian. A nuanced, spiritual and celebrated creative, he’s one of the pillars of ‘healing music’, a movement that finds its strength in meditative vocal harmonies, nature-based soundscapes and eclectic instrumentation. Boloorian’s latest effort takes a more familiar and relatable path, in the form of a poignant, evocative ballad drenched in social responsibility and inspiring lyricism.
‘This Is Your Time’ is exactly that – a cathartic, hypnotizing slice of positivity and hope, focusing on the intricate journey of refugees and immigrants, and the overwhelming obstacles that they face on a daily basis. The record, produced by GRAMMY and Emmy-winning figure Kipper Eldridge, also draws inspiration from a poem by Arab-American refugee Manal Omar. The end result is beautifully declined in true Shervin Boloorian’ sensibility, with a Persian Ney counterpointing the track’s ethereal, long soundscapes.
Speaking about the single, Boloorian explains: “Immigrants and refugees everywhere are growing in number and many are demonized. Not enough people are aware of what refugees must do to survive forced displacement, or the courage needed to build new lives for themselves and their families.”
