Returning to the global music scene after a couple of years of silence – since 2022 – American rapper and creative Trust Tate has now unveiled his latest effort ‘Don’t Look Down’, a lengthy and hard-hitting album packed with charming, striking lyricism and modern, trap-flavoured sonic energy. ‘City Never Sleep’ is the track that caught our attention, a decadent, melancholic anthem featuring gritty bars and a libertine, sultry outlook.
Drenched in vocal samples and eclectic production, ‘City Never Sleep’ speaks to the intensity and euphoria of living in the moment, perhaps highlighting the darker, most chaotic side of urban living. Explaining how he was “a victim of gun violence at 7 months old” – a story covered by the New York Times, among others – the Jersey City-based artist reveals a complex childhood, one that included emotional abuse and a challenging parental situation.
