‘Lemongrass City’ is a superb record. It’s exactly what we are looking for. Hazy, vaporous vocals, bubbly, ethereal instrumental with a touch of psych energy. The latest effort L.A.-based duo BUBBLE TEA AND CIGARETTES, the single seems to distance itself from some of the group’s earlier hits, often overly gentle and slow-paced. Instead, it moves towards a more prominent rhythmic character, absorbing everything from Mac DeMarco to Slowdive, and more.
Adamant on the fact that they make music in their bedroom, the talented pair seems to get better release after release. Their bucolic, spacious imagination is always exploring new formulas and tones, making them one of the most relevant shoegaze and dream pop acts of the past few years. We have no doubt they’ll be hitting bigger stages soon.
