In October last year, I was introduced to a fierce and empowering R&B anthem called ‘SIS (She’s Something)’. Courtesy of Memphis-based rising trio KARMA, it was a tune that took me out of my musical comfort zone in the best possible way. Vibrant, nuanced, and deeply immersive, it showcased a bold group unafraid to blend power with vulnerability.
Now, as a born and bred South African, I’ve been fortunate enough to witness the birth of Amapiano. A subgenre of kwaito and house music, Amapiano has recently taken the world by storm, and KARMA decided it could provide the perfect direction to re-imagine and amplify the message of ‘SIS (She’s Something)’.
“We wanted to bring a new energy to ‘SIS’,” says the outfit. “One that makes you move but still carries that message of love and recognition for women everywhere”. Mission accomplished! The infectious and rhythmic remix takes the track to new heights, delivering a vibrant, warm, and seriously danceable soundscape.
Heavenly soulful and delectably upbeat, KARMA’s reworking of ‘SIS’ is a shining example of the trio’s versatile and dynamic approach to crafting music. They’re the real deal, and they’re here to stay!
