Stillness is a forgotten concept these days. Perhaps down to the insane amount of distraction in everyday life, people find it difficult to really slow down and enjoy the passing of time. ‘All in Time’ highlights that very same issue, although from the personal, authentic perspective of American songstress Olivia Reid. Interestingly, the record also proves to be a helpful tool for calmness and meditation, with Reid’s soothing, evocative vocals and tender, heartwarming character.
Boasting millions of streams on Spotify alone, the New York-based creative does not disappoint, staying true to her reputation as an intelligent, meaningful lyricist. ‘All In Time’ follows up on previous effort ‘Quite Simple’, expanding on the same theme of calmness and slowness. Layered over a crepuscular, folk-inspired production, Reid’s stunning vocal tone makes it easy for the listeners to get lost in it, initiating a journey of introspection and escapism.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Olivia explains: “I wrote this song about the winter, struggling to let myself feel calm in the darker hibernal months of the year. Sonically, we added a sample of someone’s footsteps in the snow and ambient voice memos from my trip to Poland that I had labeled ‘poland forest’ to create this natural world I was imagining”.
