Not even a full year has passed since Man With A Corduroy Heart’s previous album, ‘Things Are a Little Bit…’, and the British creative is already back with a new full-length record, ‘Weirdos’. Leaving dreamy textures and vintage keyboards behind, the Cambridge-based talent has found a worthy refuge in pure, nostalgic Folk settings, oscillating between roots rock elements and Americana references. Overall, it’s interesting to observe how the project has evolved just in the span of a few months, perhaps a reaction to a music landscape that’s incredibly synthetic and ephemeral.
Truthfully, Man With A Corduroy Heart lives and breathes music. Boasting extensive experience from his day job as a mixing engineer, it’s no wonder he’s able to record incredible music. Working with a plethora of notable clients (including Jools Holland, among others), the English musician is exposed to several different influences, continuously informing his artistic output. ‘Weirdos’ showcases exactly that, yet it does it in a personal way, maintaining the quirky and relatable storytelling that is – by now – one of the project’s permanent signatures.

From the rowdy, bluesy opener ‘House to Myself’ to the more constrained ‘Cowboy Boots’, ‘Weirdos’ is a wonderfully traditional album, one that finds its strengths in simplicity and tenderness. After all, at a time when the world is in turmoil, we all look for familiarity: Man With A Corduroy Heart caters to exactly that.
Speaking about the record, the British musician explains: “I produced this myself, which I know is pretty much the done thing now. But I actually mix music for a living! Lyrically, I draw a lot of inspiration from the rhythm of stand-up comedy. Not that the songs are strictly comedic, but I love the idea of writing stories with punchlines or unexpected turns at the end of verses.”
