We are always up for some boundary-pushing musical exploration. That’s why we absolutely loved coming across ‘Nature Odyssey’. Embracing the “elf” narrative, the record takes the listener into a bucolic, hypnotising and soothing journey through a fictional magical forest, taking cues from popular fantasy literature and pivoting the transformative power of a soft, acoustic ballad.
Penned by Hong Kong-based drug Carpe Diem, the record is not just an acoustic ballad. Incorporating a myriad of textures and nature-powered field recordings, the duo blurs the line between songwriting and soundscapes, offering a holistic listening experience that’s as relevant to the mind as it is to the senses.
The evocative sound of the rain, the lively and vibrant recording of birds chirping, and eclectic instrumentation such as the Didjeridoo – they all play an important role in building Carpe Diem’s nuanced artistic vision. Crowning it all, we find Ada’s evocative vocals, perfectly complementing Keith’s guitar arpeggios. Speaking about the release, the pair explain: “A rethinking journey/ inner struggle to link up the nature and climate crisis”.
