When it comes to Bromsen, we know what we are talking about. We have been following them for the past year or so, while they build up to an upcoming album – ‘Brothers In Mind’ – expected in February. The project aligns perfectly with what we are looking for. A blend of organic and electronic elements, with a certain retro flavouring and new wave allure. Take for instance ‘Someone’, Bromsen’s latest effort: partially echoing a certain Depeche Mode-esque quality, the single is as eclectic as it could, this time even diving into harder rock stylings (think Europe, among others).
A gracefully deceptive record: introducing itself with a punchy drum machine beat and an arpeggiated bass synth, the track might at first appear as a bright slice of synthwave goodness. At least until distorted guitar tones enter the sonic picture, incorporating a fashionable glam-rock character that we do not dislike. It’s unexpected, but also quite rewarding.
If anything, it showcases the artistic fertility of the German duo, always keen to explore new sonic territories. Hailing from Berlin, to be exact, Richard and Karlo Bromsen pack ‘Someone’ full of relatable lyricism. As they explain: “The song’s uplifting message encourages listeners to live honestly and boldly, celebrating the essence of individuality.”
