“We usually write about sex, but this one is about the purity of forlorn lovesick despair”. These are the words of 9 o’clock Nasty, a legendary Leicester-based act who have just released their brand new single ‘Bird of Happiness’. Featuring another one of our favourite artists, Meg Cratty of The Margaret Hooligans on vocals, it’s a sweet, laidback, and nostalgia-laced little tune that expertly showcases the band’s versatility and adaptability. The track’s genius lies in its beautiful simplicity and clarity, and the absence of unnecessary embellishments or distractions only provides further proof of 9 o’clock Nasty’s authenticity and genuine approach to songwriting.
Serving as the final single that the band will release before unleashing ‘Culture War 2023’, their full-length album in late September, ‘Bird of Happiness’ is an indie-rock masterpiece. Thematically dealing with “the journey from content self-sufficiency to the ache of missing the person that completes you,” it’s a song that doesn’t shy away from harsh realities.
The band also produced a music video to accompany their latest tune, and we are proud to share it with you below. 9 o’clock Nasty keep us on our toes, and we’re never quite sure what to expect with each new release. The guarantee though, is that it’s always something interesting and appealing!
