The keen reader might remember indie rock outfit Atari Pilot, thanks to a recent feature we did for their comeback single ‘Train of Life’. Writing about the track, we proudly declared: “an equal blend between guitar shenanigans and pop-flavoured lyricism”. Now, the band returns with their latest effort, the wholesome and reflective gem ‘I Took A Photo’. The record continues in the path set by its predecessor, kaleidoscopic indie matter with spacious drums, a large sonic panorama and synthetisers mixed with guitars.
Atari Pilot’s lead vocals – so masterfully performed by Onze – are the highlights of the song, so evocative and charming, instantly demanding the listener’s attention. Paj on bass, Andy on drums, and Frosty on guitar complete what’s a very compelling line-up.
Lyrically, ‘I Took A Photo’ focuses on the uncertainty of life and relationships; often, a simple decision can change the course of events forever. Applied to human connections, it is easy to see how crucial would be to listen carefully to one’s heart. As the band explains: “It’s a song about two people at a crossroads, searching for each other and hoping to mend things. The heartfelt lyrics capture the essence of those moments where uncertainty hangs in the air and you realise who and what matters most.”
